About the Author

Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981), minister of Westminster Chapel in London for 30 years, was one of the foremost preachers of his day. His many books have brought profound spiritual encouragement to millions around the world.

Christopher Catherwood (PhD, University of East Anglia) is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society and member of both Churchill and St. Edmund's Colleges at Cambridge University. He was a fellow of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust in 2010 and medalist in 2014. Christopher lives in a village near Cambridge with his wife, Paulette.

About the Author
Richard Penner, professor at the Hotel School at Cornell University since 1970, teaches hotel planning, development, and interior design. Experienced in both architecture and hotel management, he spent year-long sabbaticals with international designer Hirsch Bedner Associates (Santa Monica, CA) and the architecture group of Starwood Hotels and Resorts (White Plains, NY). A graduate of Cornell University, with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture, he is the author of four books―two coauthored with the late Walter Rutes, who was the lead author on the first edition of Hotel Design, Development, and Planning. In 1992 Hospitality Design magazine honored Penner with its Platinum Circle Award for contributions to hospitality design as an author and teacher. He has presented seminars on development, hotel planning, and interior design throughout the world. He has served a three-year term as Director of Graduate Studies at the Hotel School, has been conference coordinator for design seminars at the European Meeting on Hotel Interior Design in Rimini, Italy, and has chaired five Hospitality Design Roundtables sponsored by the Center for Hospitality Research at Cornell.

Lawrence Adams, AIA, Vice President of ForrestPerkins, has managed and directed the design of large-scale development projects at major architectural and planning firms over the last thirty-five years. A global authority on hotel and resort design, Mr. Adams served as adjunct faculty at New York University for nine years teaching graduate courses on Hotel Design and Development. He also co-authored Hotel Design, Planning and Development (2001) with Walter Rutes and Richard Penner. Among his most significant projects are the New York Four Seasons Hotel, the RIGHA Royal Hotel, Chambers Hotel, The Westin Beach Resort & Spa, Fort Lauderdale, and the National Headquarters of the Marine Corps Reserve.

Stephani K. A. Robson joined the faculty at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration in 1993. A specialist in hospitality design psychology, she has contributed numerous research articles to academic journals including the Journal of Environmental Psychology and the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly and frequently writes for trade journals on topics related to hospitality design and development.

I am a molecular biologist specializing in trypanosome parasites - and I was interested in expanding my knowledge of other parasites and economic and international development issues relating to Neglected Tropical Diseases. This book is an excellent read for an expert like myself but also I think the writing style is very accessible to non-experts and should be read broadly. It is not a classical textbook, as it is very succinct and covers a lot of material, yet despite the brevity it is not superficial, it has real depth. Dr Peter Hotez has a high profile for a scientist, and rightly so, as he is a great writer and communicator. I would recommend this book to undergraduate, postgraduate, and biological science and medical students without any doubts - it will be far more enjoyable reading than their recommended textbooks. Anyone with a background in science could easily read this, and I really think anyone with a college level degree could read this book and understand it. (Disclaimer - I do not know nor have ever met Dr Hotez despite being a parasitologist working in the USA).

Not only Dr. Hotez is the leading authority in the field of Neglected Tropical Diseases but also he manages to transmit his passion in a very easy and entertaining book. Loved it. But beware! It might change your career pathway!

Por ejemplo, de cómo los encuadres o nuestra relación con el entorno o fotografiado afectan a la toma fotográfica. Este libro está a medio camino entre un manual de técnica compositiva y otro de teoría fotográfica.Seas experto en la materia o un aficionado, considero muy adecuado este libro para cualquier persona, fotógrafo o no (quizás solo quieras aprender a leer bien una fotografía).

They aimed to give the proof of the validity of spiritual endeavor that a materialistic age demanded. Metaphysics was no longer going to be a matter of philosophical speculation, but one of rigorous experimental study. Thus French savants handed themselves over to every conjurer and charlatan in the land. . . . It is an excellently researched, scholarly look at serious-minded people seeking empirical truth for the doctrines they already believed by faith, a 'science of God.' With a firmer grip than most writers on his subject, Monroe puts these events into their political context, showing how psychic phenomena had a rewarding way of changing shape to reflect the preoccupations of those observing them. In the post-1848 atmosphere of political repression journalists enjoyed reporting exciting events that were not subject to censorship; Catholic priests were able to play on anxieties by presenting the devil as a demonstrable presence in the séance room; scientists could portray themselves as objective guardians of rationality. The political left also gained solace from these phenomena, following revolution and a conservative backlash. Victor Hugo, for example, in 1853 asked a table for a 'commentary,' to which it replied 'Republic.' He asked the table to strike the floor as many times as there were years from then until the republic; the table struck two blows. Thus a divine order ruled the universe and a French republic was part of that order.
